🍷 Weinnotes - Weekly Oregon Wine Newsletter

Published almost 2 years ago • 1 min read

There are two choices when you finally get a chance to sit down at 10:30 on Friday morning to start the newsletter. One, you can rush it out the door or admit defeat for the week. I am choosing to admit defeat. This week I have been wrestling with a new workflow for the podcast, driving all over the place for the end-of-year school activities, and being a ballet dad.

I won’t leave you completely high and dry. I have a few excellent links to share before I let you off the hook super easy this week.

Were you aware there is a Golden Girls Cafe in L.A.?

If you didn’t go to Magic in the Mountains last weekend, here’s a nice recap!

Joel Sokoloff is the new farm and vineyard manager at Soter. He was previously at Horsepower for 7+ years.

A massive shoutout to the new graduates at AHIVOY!

The Robb Report deeply delved into age-worthy Pinot Noir, focusing on R.R. Wines!

Decanter published their 2022 Decanted World Wide Awards scores. I disagree with their findings big time! For example, the highest Oregon Wine scored a 93, and only nine wines scored above 90. Compare these results to James Suckling’s Oregon Report I linked to last week, which makes no sense.

Let’s wrap things up with some vineyard dinners to attend at Arlyn

  • June 25 - Fire roasted Salmon
  • July 16 - Mediterranean Feast
  • August 6 - Menu to be announced!
  • August 20 - Seafood Paella

Get your tickets here!

With Gratitude,

A.J.

P.S. - I came across this quote from Winston Churchill this week. Enjoy!

"I could not live without Champagne. In victory I deserve it, in defeat I need it."

Did you notice that I didn't send out a newsletter on the first Saturday of the month last week? I certainly did. I'm not one who enjoys missing my own imposed deadlines, but I have a larger deadline looming for myself, more on that in a bit. Have you watched "The Bear" yet on Hulu? I know it isn't directly related to wine, but if you haven't seen it, put it on your list. I watched Season 1 and 2 again with my daughter, and she might have had a little tear running down her face at the end of...

Here we are, the last newsletter for 2023. Where has this year gone? I could ramble off for far too long, but the newsletter is over 4,000 words this month. Part of me is sorry, but the other part says, “Nope, not sorry at all!” I adore the ever-loving heck out of the fact I don’t have anyone telling me your newsletter is too long! Enjoy, and I hope you have a beautiful Christmas full of love, warmth, friends, and family! Enjoy all of the links, so much is happening! Archery Summit is...

I wish I had an endless amount of time in a day! There is so much I want to do every single day. Choosing what to focus on and what not to focus on is challenging. Multiple times over this last month, I found myself saying, “Oh, I should write about this in the newsletter,” but there was no weekly newsletter to put it into. I am sure you and I are on the same page about missing the weekly newsletters, and one day, it will make sense, I promise. Speaking of weekly newsletters, I always enjoy...
